Pearls of Wisdom:

"As you put into practice the qualities of patience, punctuality, sincerity, and solicitude, you will have a better opinion of the world around you."

- Grenville Kleiser

Dear Scouters,

We are well into Spring and the weather is perfect to kickoff improvements at the Alamo Area Council’s Outdoor Adventure Properties. Several projects have recently been completed and new ones are on the horizon. All of our properties (Bear Creek Scout Reservation, McGimsey Scout Park, and the Mays Family Scout Ranch) are important to the success of Scouting. These camps provide opportunities for your children to spend time outdoors; enjoy nature; exercise their minds and their muscles; and learn new skills—all of which are things they cannot get from video games.

Our biggest project this year will be improving the roads at McGimsey Scout Park. Many of you are aware of the current conditions of our roads, some of which are impassible by car. It is essential that our roads be repaired in order to ensure the enjoyment and safety of our Scouts. We have secured a contractor and Martin Marietta (www.martinmarietta.com) has agreed to provide all the aggregate and concrete for the project. This project alone is a $90,000 investment in our youth and would not be possible without your support of the Friends of Scouting (FOS) fundraising campaign going on right now. During the next month you will see heavy machinery coming in and out of the park. Please pardon our dust as we prepare for the next wonderful and exciting outdoor experience for you and your child!

Thank you for giving the Boy Scouts of America the opportunity to help mold and strengthen your child’s future.

Yours in Scouting,

Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive
