Pearls of Wisdom

"Times and challenges change, yet the values of Scouting will never change. Scouts of any
era would recognize every word that you live by today, because those words have always
defined Scouting. The goodness of a person and of the society he or she lives in often
comes down to very simple things, and the words found in the Scout Law. Every society
depends on trust and loyalty, on courtesy and kindness, on bravery and reverence.
These are the values of Scouting, and these are the values of America." ~ George W. Bush, former President of the United States of America

Parents, Volunteers, and Scouts of all ages,

Thank you for a wonderful Scouting year in 2014.  The Alamo Area Council is celebrating 14 consecutive years of youth membership growth.

Help us continue to deliver the great Scouting experience to more youth and families.  Reach out to your neighbors, whether they live just down the street or across town.  Share your story of Scouting!

Everyone deserves to experience Scouting in their life.  Scouting is more than just camping and the outdoors; Scouting is a tool to help us mold our children into mature, independent young adults.

Scouting has a place in my heart and I strongly believe that there is nothing out there that can do what Scouting does for families and communities.  The true spirit and foundation that Lord Baden Powell laid out 105 years ago is still alive and well, today.  The fire still shines true and bright and it is our responsibility to Keep the Campfire Alive within the hearts of our Scouts.  As adults we must put aside the “noise” of our busy lives and focus on our children and their innocence.  Let us allow them the opportunity to be kids through the unique, true, and time-tested Scouting platform.

Together we can assure that our Scouts will enjoy the adventures that lie ahead of them.

So, as we begin the new trail ahead of us with one Oath and Law for all Scouts, keep your head up and wear your uniform with pride, for we are the Boy Scouts of America!  One Oath, One Law, One Movement!

Scout Oath

On my honor I will do my best

To do my duty to God and my country

and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times;

To keep myself physically strong,

mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly,

courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty,

brave, clean, and reverent.

Yours in Scouting,

Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive
