Pearls of Wisdom:

"Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

- Margaret Mead

During the past few years I have been to numerous community events, speaking engagements, and meetings and nearly every time I meet someone new who has been involved in Scouting in one way or another. What a wonderful problem to have: people in the community that we serve that have fond memories and a passion for Scouting. We need to harness this excitement and love for our organization that has been around for 106 years. To this end, we have been meeting over the last few months to organize a brand new group, the San Antonio League of Scouting Alumni (SALSA).

Scouting alumni are people who have been positively and personally impacted by the Boy Scouts of America. That includes former Scouts, family members of Scouts past and present, community leaders and millions of Americans who benefit from Scouting in their communities every day.

With such a large alumni base in our community, this group could rival the alumni registries of local universities. There are thousands of possible alumni in our community. With your help, the number of those involved can grow exponentially. We want to inspire them to continue their connection with the Boy Scouts of America as they have already committed a tremendous amount of time to this wonderful organization.

Please read the article below by Mark Sessions, Chairman of the San Antonio League of Scouting Alumni (SALSA), and encourage volunteers, parents, and anyone who wants a deep and long-lasting connection with Scouting to sign up with SALSA.

I look forward to seeing you at our first event and hearing everyone share their Scouting experiences with each other.

"May the great Scout Master of all Scouts be with you until we next clasp hands."

Yours in Scouting,

Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive
