Council Events and Activities

The Alamo Area Council plays host to many events throughout the year.  Please review our featured events listed below, and see the other event sections on this website listed at the bottom of the page; OR check the Council Calendar for a full listing of all events and activities. Also see the Training Calendar (under Calendar) for training events.

If you are a Scout Volunteer leader involved with supporting a council or district event, please work with your District Executive or Council Staff Advisor to request eRegistration, to have your event registration setup online.  You can also email for details or request the form at eRegistration@AlamoAreaBSA.org.

    Boy Scout Merit Badge University on May 5, 2018. A one day event hosted by the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council, for Boy Scouts in the 6th-12th Grade or ages 11-17 to earn up to four merit badges to help with their path to earn their Eagle Scout rank and serve our community.
  • APR: Backpacking the Back Country at Bear Creek Scout Reservation!

    This is the one time you get to see parts of Bear Creek Scout Reservation that you don't see during summer camp!
  • FEB-OCT: Friends of McGimsey 2018

    A quarterly opportunity for all Alamo Area Council units to earn service hours and maintain their scout park at McGimsey.
  • FEB-MAR: Cub Scout Adventure Days 2018

    Cub Scouts and their families can come to either McGimsey Scout Park in North Central SA or the Mays Family Scout Ranch in South San Antonio from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm for their first outdoor adventure with archery, BB guns, nature, crafts and games. READ ON...
  • MAY: Learning for Life Field Days 2018

    The Learning for Life Field Day 2018 (LFL) is free to South San ISD 5th graders who participate in the Learning for Life program of the Alamo Area Council. LFL Field Days will be held this year at the Mays Family Scout Ranch located at 3445 Fest Rd, San Antonio, TX, off Highway 16, south of Downtown SA during the 3 Fridays in May from 9am-2pm.     Every April, downtown San Antonio becomes the site of a citywide celebration – the Battle of Flowers® Parade. Since 1891, the women volunteer members of the Battle of Flowers® Association have produced a parade to honor the fallen heroes of the Alamo and to commemorate the victory at the battle of San Jacinto.

  • JUN: 2018 Swim Checks and Lessons

    The swim classification of individuals participating in water activities is a key element of the BSA’s Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat. Swim classification tests (swim checks) should be renewed annually at the beginning of the outdoor season and are required for any Scout attending Boy Scout Camp. The Alamo Area Council offers swim lessons to Scouts (ages 6+) as well as swim checks.

    All Cub Scouts are invited to attend the annual Cub Discovery Camp at the Bear Creek Scout Reservation. This year’s theme is Cub Scout Camping Skills. Bring your tent and camp in the Bear Creek valley while you learn and practice important camping skills for Scouts and have FUN! NOTE: This event is for Scouts and a parent.
