JUN-JUL: Boy Scout Counselor-In-Training Opportunities
by Jay Ghormley, for the Alamo Area Council, January 17, 2017
Boy Scouts are needed to serve as Counselors-In-Training during five (5) weeks of Cub Scout Day Camp at the McGimsey Scout Park. Counselors-In-Training (CITs) will serve as volunteer Pack Guides for 6-8 Cub Scouts, guiding the Scouts through their days at Day Camp. Pack Guides will also assist Cub Scouts at each camp activity, under the direction of activity leaders.
To provide the needed Pack Guides for each week of Day Camp, 50-70 CITs are needed; this will allow CITs to attend Boy Scout Camp with their troops while providing the necessary Guides.
Counselors-In-Training will augment the paid Day Camp staff at all sessions held at McGimsey. This opportunity will provide CITs leadership and camp staff experience, which will be a benefit throughout their Scouting career and life. CITs will attend a full week of Staff Training (June 5-9).
- minimum age: 14
- demonstrable leadership experience in their troop
- commitment to attend Staff Week (June 5-9)
- commitment to attend all five (5) weeks of Day Camp (with the exception of Boy Scout Camp)
- submission of Online Application
In addition to CIT positions, the McGimsey Day Camp sessions provide paid positions for Scouts 16 years and older.
This article (2017 Day Camp Staff at McGimsey) provides an overview of the new Day Camp Structure at McGimsey. The Online Application is for CITs and paid positions only.
