UGRA 14th Annual River Clean Up

UGRA 14th Annual River Clean Up

The Upper Guadalupe River Authority (UGRA) has scheduled the 14th annual River Clean Up for Saturday, July 22, 2017. The headquarters for the Clean Up will be the Flat Rock Park in Kerrville, TX. Directions to Flat Rock Park are posted on Link.

Volunteers will have the option of arriving at 8:00 am for registration, instructions, and assignments, or you may pre-register (before July 14, 2017). If you choose to pre-register, you can go directly to your assigned Clean Up location on the morning of July 22, 2017.

All volunteers should return to Flat Rock Park with their trash by 11:00 am for refreshments and the distribution of awards for the most unusual item or the biggest item. Additional garbage drop off locations will be at Ingram Boat Ramp, Guadalupe Park, and the Center Point Dam. All participants will be entered into a raffle for prizes and the first 200 pre-registered volunteers will receive an official 14th Annual River Clean Up T-shirt. We will guarantee your requested t-shirt size if you pre- register before June 30, 2017.  Additional t-shirts will be given away on a first come, first serve basis the morning of the clean up.

Although the Clean Up is staged at one location, it is anticipated that volunteers will spread out to clean up locations throughout the Guadalupe River watershed in Kerr County, including dry creek beds, bridges, and roadways.

What should you bring to the River Clean Up?

Although the River Clean Up is a lot of fun, it is also hard work and you should plan accordingly. Wear a hat and light-weight clothing to protect you from the heat, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Wear leather work gloves. UGRA will have a limited quantity of work gloves available for volunteers to borrow, but please bring your own if possible. Wear clothing and shoes that are appropriate for the wet and dirty work to be done. Protect yourself from the sun and bugs with applications of sunscreen and insect repellant: repeat as needed.   Bring chairs, picnic blankets, or popup tents for relaxing during the event wrap-up and prize raffle.

Groups and individuals are invited to participate in the River Clean Up. The Alamo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America has selected the River Clean Up to be part of its “Good Turn for America ” program. The Good Turn for America Program is a national call-to-service by the Boy Scouts, designed to improve young people, local communities and the nation.
