Pleasanton Polar Bear Event

Local Scouts Earn the Polar Bear Patch

The Cub Scouts from Pack 194 and Boy Scouts from Troop 194 of Pleasanton, Texas earned the Polar Bear Patch during the family overnight camp-out at the 3-D Ranch in Three Rivers, Texas on Saturday, December 14, 2013. The 200-acre 3-D Ranch is owned and operated by Mrs. Betty DeBrosse and her son Jerry DeBrosse. The ranch has a large herd of 40 Texas Longhorns, havalina hogs, whitetail deer, two Lamas named Tommy and Tony and a 500 lb. pig named Wilber. The Scouts assisted in setting up their own tents, participating in an outdoor worship service and cooking their own “Cub Grub” meals outdoors including Beef Stew, Chicken Noodle Soup, Peach Cobbler and their favorite treat “Smoritos”. By late evening, the temperatures had already dropped into the mid 30's as the forecast-ed low for the area was 31 degrees. Cubmaster, Joett Morrison placed a cup of water out in the open to be used as the official marker for earning the Polar Bear patch. At daybreak the group of twenty-two woke to frost on all of tents and freezing temperatures and found the cup of water had frozen. Mr. Jerry DeBrosse treated the scouts to a Hay Ride around the 200-acre ranch before they departed back to Pleasanton on Sunday. The DeBrosse family also host wounded warriors from the Center for the Intrepid at Fort Sam in San Antonio, Texas. The scouts had a great time and this is one campout they will never forget. Pack 194 extends their sincere thanks to the DeBrosse family for their warm hospitality and for hosting the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.  The scouts earning the Polar Bear Patch pictured above back row left to right are Cub Scouts Connor Below, Seth Macmanus, Zander Temple, John Cabrera, Alexander Cabrera, Luke Fanno and Alberto De La Torre.
