2016 Eagle Scouts Celebrated by National Eagle Scout Association

The San Antonio Chapter of the National Eagle Scout Association held its newly recommissioned council-wide Eagle Scout celebration on Saturday, June 17th at the Mays Family Scout Ranch. Michael De Los Santos, Alamo Area Council CEO, Dr. John Thomas, Eagle Scout & Master of Ceremonies, and Nik Newman, Alamo Area Council NESA Chairman, helped conduct the event. NESA honored roughly 35 Eagle Scouts who earned their award in the Alamo Area Council in 2016. Thanks to the Ford Foundation, the event provided cost-free meals to the 2016 Eagle Scouts. Rudy’s BBQ catered the event and no one left hungry!

Best of all, the council honored its most recent council-level recipient of the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award, Hunter Beaton. With his project, Hunter started a groundswell movement that still collects luggage for at-risk children to use when moving out of an abusive home. This “Day One” bag project grew and, with Hunter’s leadership and vision, it has expanded across the state of Texas.

Finally, our local NESA chapter had the honor of recognizing Eagle Scouts Marc Cross, owner and leader of Jordan Ford, and Eric Cooper, President & CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank, with the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (NOESA). Both gentlemen gave inspirational speeches and demonstrated the exceptional value they have both garnered from and rendered to Scouting. The San Antonio Chapter of NESA intends to host the annual Eagle Scout celebration on an annual basis going forward.
