2017 National Law Enforcement Exploring Leadership Academies

During the summer of 2017, select Law Enforcement Explorers will have the experience of participating in the National Law Enforcement Exploring Leadership Academies. The National Law Enforcement Exploring Academy Committee will select thirty Explorers for each academy. Explorers will list their top academy choices and the Academy Committee will make the assignments for the selected Explorers.

 

Featured programs include the dynamics of leadership, physical training, and law enforcement practices. The academies will begin with a group meeting on the arrival date. All Explorers will be assigned a roommate and will be housed at a University, Military Base or FLETC. U.S. MARSHALS SERVICE

U.S. ARMY MILITARY POLICE

July 16 — July 22; Location: Fort Leonard Wood, MO

U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION

July 23-29; Location: Washington, DC

FEDERAL LAWENFORCEMENT TRAINING CENTER-

U.S. BORDER PATROL

July 23 – 29; Location: Artesia, NM

DRUGENFORCEMENTADMINISTRATION

APPLICATION

Each Explorer must complete the application (see note below) and submit a statement titled,“What

Law Enforcement Exploring Has Meant to Me”. The applicant must be a current participant of Law Enforcement Exploring, and active for no fewer than 12 months.

 

Recommendation letters and certification forms must be uploaded into our online registration account during registration. Explorers will have the ability to log back in, to edit information and upload documents at a later time. Mailed letters and forms will not be accepted.

 

1.     Applying Explorers will need to submit three (3) letters of recommendation electronically through the online application. Have your letters saved as Word or PDF documents before you begin the online registration process.

2.     You will need to submit your signed certification form electronically as well. Have this document signed, scanned and saved as a PDF before you begin the online registration process. Download the Certification Form here.

3.     Once you have completed steps 1 and 2, you may begin the online registration process by clicking HEREExternal Link.  

 

PROGRAMS

The academies will feature programs on the dynamics of leadership, physical training, and law enforcement practices. The academies will begin with a group meeting on the arrival date. All Explorers will be assigned a roommate and will be housed at a University, Military Base or FLETC.

 

FEES

*For the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and DEA Academy participants will personally pay for transportation to and from Washington, D.C. In addition, the participants will pay a registration fee of $295.00 to the National Law Enforcement Exploring Office. Explorers attending the academies in Washington, DC will be expected to cover costs for some of the meals.

 

*For the U.S. Army Military Police Academy, participants will personally pay for transportation to and from LambertSt. Louis International Airport and the participants will pay a registration fee of $175.00 to the National Law Enforcement Exploring Office.

 

*For the FLETC-US Border Patrol Academy, participants will personally pay for transportation to and from Roswell International Airport and the participants will pay a registration fee of $175.00 to the National Law Enforcement Exploring Office.

 

All Explorers attending Academies will be responsible for personal spending money. Uniform costs are also the participant’s responsibility.

 

UNIFORM

Each Explorer must bring at least one, preferably two, Post dress uniforms.

 

DEADLINES

Registration opens February 1 and closes March 15, 2017.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

Each application will be reviewed by via a selection process, involving law enforcement executive representatives of the host agencies.
