Bear Creek Summer Camp To Offer Venturing Sessions

Available Week 4 (Jul 3-Jul 9) and Week 5 (Jul 10-Jul 17)

Program Features

Adventure: The Bear Creek reservation will allow venturing crews to experience a wide range of adventures through out their week-long encampment.  This will meet the criteria for a Tier III activity for Venturers Advancement (Required for Discoverer, Pathfinder and Summit Awards).  The activities available are:

  • Tandem Zip line
  • BMX Bike Track
  • Climbing (Rappeling, Rock-climbing)
  • Waterfront (Stand Up Paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, swimming, BSA Lifesaving)
  • Shooting Sports (Action arrows, Action shooting, Shot Gun, Archery, Riflery)
  • First Aid and CPR Certification Courses Offered (Required for Discovery Award)

Leadership: It may be hard to fit in the training courses required to achieve the Venture Scout Awards—so cool off in the afternoon and take the following required leadership courses at camp:

  • Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (Required for Discovery Award)
  • Crew Officers Orientation (Required for Discovery Award)
  • Project Management Training (Required for Pathfinder Award)

Personal Growth: Again, it’s hard to schedule time with your leader’s during the school year, but while at camp there is time to reflect and chart a course for your future as you enjoy the Texas Hill Country at Bear Creek. Also the following Growth courses are available:

You can reflect on and grow in your Development of Faith during chapel services (Required for Discoverer, Pathfinder and Summit Awards)

  • Take the Time Management Course (Required for Discovery Award)
  • Participate in the Ethical Discussion Activity (Required for Pathfinder Award)

Service: Part of being a Venture Scout is giving back to the community and participating in worthwhile service opportunities.  As part of earning all the Venture awards—service hours are required.  There are plenty of opportunities for service at Bear Creek Scout Reservation—and if you need trail related service hours to finish earning you 50-miler award—those can be arranged as well.  Each Venturer can earn at least 6 hours of service during their week at Bear Creek Scout Reservation.
