Attention Cub masters, Scoutmasters, Unit Committee Chairs.

Now is the time to consider your unit’s youth members and their long-term camping experience for the summer of 2016. Of course there will be those who may need assistance for attending. The question has been put to the Campership Committee: Why does the Council find the long-term camping experience for our youth members so important? It has been demonstrated over the years that this type of camping experience is the best way to insure a youth stays in the Scouting program. Those youth who have had time in the Scouting program make fine responsible citizens. For collaboration of this can be found in the leadership of the units of our council from the Cub leaders to the Council Board members. For these men and women scouting has made a positive mark on their life.

Bear Creek Summer Camp, Camp Akela and Cub Day Camp all have early registration with discounts. For these camps the Council provides camperships. The 2016 Campership form is on-line at the Council Web-Site. It should be noted that the conditions for financial aid by campership have changed from last year.

Your Campership Committee has ascertained that there are several sources for financing the camping experience: the youth’s family, the troop or pack’s money from product sales, and a campership if needed. The family’s aid is a traditional way to pay for summer camp. The Council has added product sales so the youth of a unit may practice the Scout Law - a Scout is Thrifty. The Council suggests that Troops and Packs that have sold Camp Cards and Popcorn have set up accounts for those youth who have been sellers of these produce so they can use the money to go to camp during the summer. If the family of the youth is unable to supply the cost of the Camp and the youth’s earnings from product sales are insufficient then a Campership request is there to assist. However, the campership will only cover 50% of the camp fee.
