Clay Shooting Strikes Fun and Adventure in Adults for a Younger Cause

Individuals Participate in Clay Shooting to Support Our Youth

By Benny Noriega, Marketing Intern for Alamo Area Council BSA: June 1, 2015

The sky was cloudy as people poured into the National Shooting Complex to celebrate Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council Annual Clay Shoot. Having this event be my first, I was rather excited and determined to weather through any obstacles that may permit the clay shoot from not happening. The silent auction opened the event as individuals rushed to place bids on their favorite items and gifts.

Volunteers and BSA members worked side by side in making sure everyone who attended were greeted and informed of the purpose of this event and the many opportunities of winning any of the prizes available.  Once the afternoon arrived, the sun shined bright and all clay shooters were armed and ready to take to the field. All at once, a line of golf cars drove down the road to the clay shooting courses for a game of fun, networking, team building and the overall purpose of supporting the Boy Scouts of America and todays youth. The sounds of shotguns firing and clay plates breaking filled the sky for two hours as teams competed for the top slot. This was a great way to bring people together not only for a special cause, but also to entice them on the benefits that come along with their support. I can definitely say that I ‘ve become more anxious now to get back out there and participate in some clay shooting.

Once the clay shooting ended, everyone reconvene back to the main post as the live auction was getting underway. Final bids were being finalized for the silent auction as awards of the clay shoot were announced and handed out on engraved Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council cutting boards. The live auction closed the event as individuals raced to out bid their competitor on their desired item. Ultimately, I would say that nobody left empty-handed. Everyone walked away with a lasting impression on the event, clay shooting, and the Boy Scouts’ mission. Overall the event was a huge success!

“Scouting makes the most of what little time parents and San Antonio leaders have to impact their children. With support from charity events like our Boy Scout Shoot Out, and community partners like Valero Energy Foundation, Scouting continues to provide a safe, time–tested, values-based environment that gets youth outdoors,” said Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive for the local Boy Scouts.
