Mays Family Scout Ranch Prayer Dedication

By: Brianna Ibarra for the Alamo Area BSA: October 23, 2015

On September 11, 2015 the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council hosted a kick off for the grand opening of the Mays Family Scout Ranch. Many people gathered to celebrate this new south side location, located on 3445 Fest Road. Of the many guests that attended was Pastor Gene Horne, the Council Chaplain.

Before each Boy Scout event, the pledge of allegiance to our nation and a prayer is always cited.

"We are thankful to assemble here this evening to celebrate the opening of the Mays Family Scout Ranch of the Alamo Area Council Boy Scouts of America for the use of the youth of our communities. Let us give thanks:

"Gracious Lord, creator of all we know, know our thankfulness for this fine camp. We are thankful to the Board that had a vision of a camp on the south side of the county, for those who we supported the effort financially to make it possible, for those who designed and created it, for those who gave time to see that the vision of our Board could come to fruition. Thanks O Lord for bringing us together for this time of celebration. In the Lords Name, Amen."

Before the ribbon cutting ceremony, Chaplain Gene ended with a prayer dedicated to the Mays Family Scout Ranch:

"Lord we wish your spirit to bless the Mays Family Scout Ranch that all that happens here will be for the betterment of the youth of our communities. We desire this to be a place of peace and harmony, where youth may find here the fellowship of scouting that gives insights to grow into mature adults, possessing a vision of living that is the Scout Oath and Law. For this purpose we do dedicate the Mays Family Scout Ranch and see your blessing upon it. This we ask in the Lord’s Name, Amen."

The Alamo Area Council was very honored by having this prayer dedicated to the Mays Scout Ranch. The Mays Family Scout Ranch was a great addition to the south side of San Antonio not only for our scouts, but for scout families. The youth are enjoying this new facility and plan to continue to make memories and come for a place of fellowship with other scouts.
