San Antonio League of Scouting Alumni
2017 marks the start of the second full year of the San Antonio League of Scouting Alumni and membership is growing with 1,677 members! Our mission is to expand our Scouting family to include formerly active alumni and anyone who cares about Scouting and wants to Remember Rekindle Reconnect Reinvest : the Scouting experience shared by family and friends.
Your SALSA Committee met on January 4th to plan the 2017 activities designed to provide all SALSA members the opportunity to reconnect with the enthusiasm and fun of Scouting in the Alamo Area Council. In 2017, look for SALSA to honor several outstanding alumni and Eagle Scouts, and to sponsor service projects and other community events.
The first of these awards is the 2017 Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award. In 2009, the National Eagle Scout Association established this award to recognize valuable service of an exceptional nature by a Scout to a religious institution, a school, community, or other entity. The award recognizes the Scout for his Eagle Scout leadership service project, which is part of the requirements for earning the Eagle Scout Award. Each year, local Councils select a Council-level winner, and from that pool, each region selects a region-level winner. A national winner is then selected from the four regional finalists. For more information about this award, visit: http://www.nesa.org/adams_award.html
Be sure to mark your calendar as SALSA will have a presence at the Friends of Scouting Bexar County Breakfast on January 31, Scout Sunday on February 5, Scout Night at the Rodeo on February 12, the Good Scout Luncheon on March 28, the Scout Strong Patriot Run on May 20, Boy Scout Shoot Out on May 25, the Alamo Area Council Scouting Expo on August 17, the Golf Classic on October 2, and Merit Badge Universities in May, November, and December.
A real big “Thank You” is due to the dedicated SALSA Committee, named below. Their service is a present reminder that Scouting builds character, discipline, self-reliance, and love of God and Country; and we are blessed to have their commitment. When you see them, feel free to ask about SALSA and how you or someone you know can get involved.
