Scout Strong Patriot Run Toughest 5k in San Antonio

Natural Terrain 5k Honoring Scout Youth and Country

by Angel Martinez, for the Alamo Area BSA: June 16, 2015

The Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council teamed up with Pulmonair in bringing our local communities together to promote fitness and honor Scout youth and country during the Scout Strong Patriot Run on Saturday, June 13th at McGimsey Scout Park in Castle Hills.

Deemed by many experienced runners to be the toughest 5k in San Antonio, the run over natural terrain included a competitive run division, competitive walk division, and a Kids’ 1k Fun Run.

“The Alamo Area Council is happy that the Scout Strong Patriot Run is a 5k that many runners believe to be the toughest in San Antonio but also a whole lot of fun.   And, that fun and fitness could not be possible without sponsors like Pulmonair who helped us honor our Scout Youth and Country and Armed Forces and connected our Scouts and their families with SA Mayor’s Fitness Council and SA2020’s vision of improving neighborhoods, family well being, and the health & fitness of our greater community,” said Angel Martinez, Communications / Marketing Director, Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council

Pulmonair, Eagle Sponsor for the Scout Strong Patriot Run, has led the way for others to contribute to this event. So far the Alamo Area Council has raised over $12,000 by other sponsors and endorsements such as Valero, Mayor’s Fitness Council, SA 2020, Venturing Officers Association, and many more.

“The main reason we support the Scout Strong Patriot Run is because Pulmonair loves to give back to the community… and, we love to team up with organizations that are ‘paying it forward’ and doing good in our community,” said Dr. John M. Raimondo, Eagle Scout and President / CEO, Pulmonair.

All proceeds from the event benefitted the programs of the Alamo Area Council, BSA. Scouting programs supported include Project Aguila, a board initiative to create long-standing Scouting units in new areas of need, and Scoutreach, an in-school program that serves over 4,000 at-risk youth.
