Scouts of Troop 118 and Troop 137 Properly Retire U.S. Flags

Before we display a flag, we must ask ourselves  "if it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display." If not, we must properly retire a flag.  As Scouts and Scouters, we are taught to recognize our duty to our country. The retirement of our countries flag is a duty that every Scout and Volunteer must treat with respect and dignity. The Boy Scouts of America Handbook states that “We simply need to ask ourselves if the manner in which we are retiring (destroying) the flag is dignified. If the answer is yes, then that method is perfectly acceptable.”

Respectfully, Boy Scouts with Troop 118 and Troop 137, under the supervision of Commander Marvin Roemer of Poth VFW Post 8555, retired United States flags by incinerating them on the Wilson County Courthouse lawn during a February 4th the full story HEREExternal Link.
