Please Review the Newly Updated Guide to Safe Scouting

by Linda Dieguez for the AlamoAreaBSA. August 7, 2018

The Guide to Safe Scouting was recently updated and has some changes that may impact your program planning.

The Youth Protection changes are now reflected in the updated version of the Guide to Safe Scouting.

For Cub Scouts - there are changes to the shooting sports program.  Lions are now allowed to participate in Archery and Slingshots.  Tigers are now ONLY allowed to participate in Archery and Slingshots.  BB's are no longer permitted for Tigers. Cub Scout Shooting Programs are still only authorized at a Council/District outdoor program.

NOTE: Update, the Tiger shooting will not change (they can still use BB Guns) and the Lions are now able to use Archery and Slingshots.   The age guidelines will be updated soon in the GSS.  - August 13, 2018

For all scouts - there are changes to Aquatics requirements that should be reviewed by all troops planning any type of water activities, including canoeing and kayaking.

Please note that we are not listing all the changes here, just making you aware of some of the changes that have been made.

As good stewards of the Scouting Program it is important that we include a review of the Guide to Safe Scouting whenever we are planning an activity or outing.

The Online Version is the most up to date version.  Please take a moment to review the online Guide to Safe Scouting here: https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/gss/External Link
