What is Scoutbook? Get Your Code Today!

What is Scoutbook?
Have you started using Scoutbook yet? If you’re unfamiliar with it, Scoutbook is a new web application provided by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America; which helps with advancement tracking, unit communications, calendar keeping and more. Although the program is not ordinarily free, thanks to the support of the Trails End Popcorn company, every Scout, parent and leader in the Alamo Area Council can now access the program for free.
In addition to being a staff member, I am also a parent of three Scouts, and an Assistant Scoutmaster in my oldest son’s Troop. As the parent of my Boy Scout, I was always frustrated at the lack of a system to track all of his partially completed merit badges (I know my boy is the only one who has trouble completing badges, right?). What did he complete? What does he still need? What about his nights camping, miles hiked and service hours worked? In addition to these concerns, our Troop lacked a good system for keeping a centralized calendar of our upcoming events and RSVPs for those events.
These issues are addressed with Scoutbook, with the additional added benefit of being able to more easily communicate with our leaders and members. From the first moment I tried it, I was hooked. Now, I can’t imagine Scouting without it. Scoutbook makes so many of those ‘back end’ operations so much easier to manage.
So, as a parent and a leader in one our local Scouting units, I want to recommend Scoutbook to you. There’s no cost, what are you waiting for? Try it today at www.Scoutbook.comExternal Link
If you are the first person in your unit to establish an account, you will need to sign up for the connected pack/troop plan. The initial trial period is 30 days for free. Once you have your unit account established, visit to request a code to establish your account for the next year.
At this time, Scoutbook is only available for Packs and Troops, but they plan to release it for Venturing and Varsity in the near future. So, if you’re a leader in a Team or Crew, please check back towards the end of this year.
Happy Adventures!
