Armadillo District IHC Performs at Memorial District September Round Table

The Armadillo District Indian Heritage Committee (IHC) was invited by District Commissioner Walter A. Ruiz to sing, dance and drum for Memorial District’s September 2013 Round Table. The purpose and intent was to inspire Memorial Districts Order of the Arrow and to possibly inspire them to build their own Indian Heritage Committee Team. We arrived around 7:00 pm setup some displays with pictures and some samples of the regalia that we use while performing Ceremonies, singing, drumming and dancing.

Mr. Strye and Paul Aguilar, the Armadillo Chapter Chief, talked a little about what we do and where we hold our weekly meetings. They answered many questions from the audience.  Members from the team talked about the regalia that they were wearing.  For example, Zeb Knapp talked about our Roaches, (roaches is the name of the regalia we wear on our head while we dance) Tyler Orzech talked about our bustles, Jacob Aguero talked about the songs we sing and the Pow Wow Drum he plays, Jacob Reid explained how the leg clacks and Bandoliers are made and Andy Mogollan talked about how the breast plates are made and their purpose.  Unfortunately we only had time to dance two songs for Memorial Districts Round Table.  We left our contact info with many of the members in attendance.

If you or anyone you know is interested in Ceremonies, singing, Drumming, Dancing and or fellowship,  we meet every Thursday at 7:00 pm at Northwest Church of Christ, 9681 W Loop 1604 N, San Antonio, TX 78254.  Our contact information is below.
