Scout Youth Honored and Explorer of the Year Awarded at Alamo Area Council’s Annual Fundraiser

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (January 27, 2017) - Community leaders and Scout supporters will gather Tuesday, January 31, 2017, to hear youth members of the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council share their stories.  Others will be honored for their outstanding achievements and saving lives.  Valero Energy Corporation will host the event at their facility at 1 Valero Way at 7:00 a.m.

“Events like our Bexar County Community Breakfast provide our supporters insight into our youth leadership programs in South Central Texas, and supports funding that continues this tradition of adventure and character development that keeps the campfire alive for years to come,” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive, Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council.

Hunter Beaton, Eagle Scout with Troop 18 and Alle Wolfer, Venture Scout with Crew 804 will emcee the breakfast; announcing several special honorees.  Star Scout, Thomas Bryant IV of Troop 369, Cub Scout, Ethan R. Hunter of Pack 338, and Star Scout, Zaine Alexander Anderson of Troop 360; will be honored for their significant acts of service that demonstrate unusual heroism and skill in saving or attempting to save another’s life.

“Take out your checkbooks and write the biggest check you can for the future of our community and nation…spend money on our youth to build a strong foundation of citizenship, service and core values,” said Susan Pamerleau, when asked about what our community can do to support our youth.

The Honorable Susan Pamerleau will receive the Council Explorer of the Year Award for her dependability, positive attitude, and leadership contributions to the Exploring program, Scouting, and the community. This award will be the first of its kind awarded by the Alamo Area Council. Bexar County Sheriff Exploring Post 401 Captain, Yen-Chieh Pai, will present the award. Exploring is a co-ed career education program of the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council that serves youth ages 10 to 20 years of age.

The annual event, chaired by Marcel Johnson, Business Development Manager of Port San Antonio, and hosted by Valero Energy Corporation, helps support Scouting programs and camps council wide.  To support local Scouting, donate online today at or text INVESTMENT to 91999.
