Boy Scouts kick off discount card spring fundraiser that supports Outdoor Adventures

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 24, 2016) – The Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council, will launch their discount card fundraiser called Camp Cards on Friday, February 26, 2016.

The Camp Card, an award-winning fundraising program, is a risk-free way for Scout Units and youth to earn their way to summer camp, high adventure outings, or other activities.  The Alamo Area Council Camp Cards, which first sold in 2013, will sell for only $5 to the general public and will offer discounts at several area businesses, including restaurants, entertainment venues, and service vendors for the customer to use and reuse throughout 2016. Each participating Scout Unit will keep 50% commission of the sales total for each Camp Card sold.

“Like camping and outdoor adventure, selling a product like the Camp Card prepares our youth to face the world with a heart of service, commitment, and leadership to find success.  Please support our youth by purchasing a Camp Card for yourself and another as a gift so that we can keep the campfire alive for all youth for many years to come,” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive for the Alamo Area Council, BSA, based in San Antonio, Texas.

Look for Scouts selling Camp Cards at local businesses and within neighborhoods in San Antonio and the 12 surrounding counties served by the Council.  Camp Cards may also be purchased at either of the Council Offices to benefit under-served youth in the Scoutreach program.  The sale will last for twelve weeks until Friday, May 20, 2016.

Since 2013, hundreds of Scouting Units have sold a total of 159,206 Camp Cards grossing $832,225 with $416,112 staying with the selling Units to help them and their Scouts pay necessary expenses.

“The Alamo Area Council is grateful for our community Camp Card Vendor Partners, including Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, 7-Eleven, Burger King, Express Lube, Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen, Good Sports, Las Palapas and Schlitterbahn for the opportunity to work together in serving youth in our community,” says Angel Martinez, Director of Scouting Relations and Communications for the Alamo Area Council, BSA. “The success of our Camp Card sale will support more youth enjoying sports, fitness, and outdoor adventures.”
