FORD RIVER RACE

The 49th Annual Challenge through the San Antonio’s Downtown River

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (August 4, 2017) - The Alamo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Paseo del Rio Association will host a race down the San Antonio River on Saturday, August 5th from 7-11 A.M.  The registration check-in will be located at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville on 849 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78205. The Ford River Race includes a Scouting competition encouraging outdoor adventure. Sponsored by Ford, the challenge is also open to the public, corporations, and celebrity teams with special pricing for the Scouting/Youth Group community. Media is invited to see the action packed race on August 5th from 7:30 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. at the Chamber of Commerce located on 602 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78205.

“Come out and join the fun! This is the only event during the year that you can navigate the San Antonio River downtown. This is great opportunity for all Scouts, young and old, to test their skills at canoeing and kayaking.” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive, Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council.

Outdoor adventure activity stations staffed by local BSA council volunteers will be available focusing on water safety, canoeing/kayaking skills and more all of which can earn partial credit towards the canoeing and kayaking Boy Scout merit badges.

Maggie Thompson, Executive Director of the San Antonio River Walk Association, says “The River Walk is proud to continue the 49-year tradition of partnering with the Alamo Area Boy Scouts in bring this wonderful even to the community.”

PLEASE NOTE: 

Community and Celebrity registrations have been combined to a single Public category. The watercraft type options include a 2-person canoe and a 1-person kayak teams. 21 Canoes with paddles and life jackets will be available to borrow (no reservation required, rotating use).
