SCOUTS HONORED AT “GIVE THE ADVENTURE” BREAKFAST

Scout Youth and Family Honored at Alamo Area Council’s Annual Fundraiser

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 5, 2018) - Community leaders and Scout supporters will gather Thursday, February 8th, 2018, to hear youth members of the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council share their stories.  Others will be honored for their outstanding achievements and saving lives. Valero Energy Corporation will host the event at their facility at One Valero Way, that begins at 7:00 a.m and concludes at 8:30 a.m. Media is invited to attend the breakfast program that begins at 7:15 a.m.

“The goal of the “Scouting Movement” is to teach our youth to have good judgement and a good head on their shoulders by experiencing positive outdoor adventures. So please join us at the Give the Adventure Breakfast to help fund the tradition of adventure and character development.” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive, Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council.

Job Keith, Life Scout with Troop 114 of sponsored by American Legion-Floresville Post #38 and Michael Chunat, Eagle Scout with Troop 650 sponsored by Concordia Lutheran Church will emcee the breakfast; announcing several special honorees.  Life Scout, Davis Gill of Troop 360, and Star Scout, Oliver Chandler of Troop 90; will be honored for their significant acts of service that demonstrate unusual heroism and skill in saving or attempting to save another’s life.

"Give the Adventure" is the new and improved theme from "Friends of Scouting"! The help that comes from great men and women gives the adventure to a Scout that will change his or her life forever! If it wasn’t for "Give the Adventure" I wouldn't be half the man I am today!  It's the little things we do, that makes the biggest impact!” says Life Scout, Job Keith.

Webelos Scout, Laura Vinka of Pack 380 and family will present colors during the welcome ceremonies of the annual breakfast and will be awarded with a Council Certificate for being the first family to participate in the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Councils Family Scouting program. Lion Cub Scout, McKinley Smith of Pack 363 will read the Scout Oath and Law and Wolf Scouts Liam and Alim Echevarria of Pack 432 will lead the invocation.

“Our Give the Adventure (GTA) breakfast supports the essence of scouting, the things that immediately come to mind when you think of being a boy scout, such as hiking, camping, fishing, zip lining, and a host of other outdoor activities.  The GTA campaign helps ensure all scouts have those experiences.” said Marcel Johnson, when asked about what Our Give the Adventure can do to support our youth.”

The annual event, chaired by Marcel Johnson, Business Development Manager of Port San Antonio, and hosted by Valero Energy Corporation, helps support Scouting programs and camps council wide.  To support local Scouting, donate online today at www.GiveTheAdventure.orgExternal Link or text GIVEADVENTURE to 41444.
