John Bourland of Troop 496 Earns His Eagle Rank

Troop 496 is pleased to share that John Bourland has now completed all 137 current merit badges.  John is a Sophomore at St Mary's Hall and completed his Eagle Scout in 2015.  When asked about the process he says "earning all badges gave me an opportunity to be exposed to things I would likely not have done otherwise."  His favorite badge was whitewater kayaking which is something he has now had the opportunity to do again.  Scouting and the pursuit of badges has taken him to summer camps around Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, and Georgia along with high adventures at Philmont, Northern Tier, and this year's Jamboree.  There have also been numerous early mornings at MBU's both in San Antonio and Austin.  His mother reports,

"Supporting John in this endeavor has involved the whole family and has inspired many people in our troop and in the community to become engaged with working with our scouts.  I have been so impressed by the willingness people have to offer their time and some really amazing experiences just because John is a scout." says John’s mother Sarah Bourland.

John looks forward to continuing in Scouts and is active in his Troop and Venture Crew and would like to pursue an Engineering degree after graduation.
