2016 Leader Training Opportunities

Facilitator Youth Protection Training (for Training Facilitator ONLY)

Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm- Free

This training is Facilitator Training for Face-to-Face Youth Protection Training. This is not standard Face-to-Face Youth Protection Training. Once trained, Facilitators can provide Face-to-Face training to anyone except their own unit or its members. The Facilitator will be listed on the Council Facilitator list and be supervised by their District Training Chair and District Youth Protection Champion. The training is held in the Large Conference Room at the Alamo Area Council Service Center.

 

Den Chief Training

Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 8:00am to 12:00pm-  Free

This is training for Den Chiefs: Pack, District, and Council Trainers; Den Leaders, Cubmasters; Scoutmasters, Varsity Coaches, and Venturing Crew Advisors. This training teaches the Den Chief to effectively assist the Den Leader with planning and conducting Den Meetings. Adult leaders are encouraged to attend the training to understand the role of this position.

 

CPR/AED 2016

Monday, May 2, 2016 from 5:30pm to 10:30pm - $55

The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. Certification in Adult CPR/AED is required to enter Wilderness and Remote First Aid training.

 

Wilderness and Remote First Aid 2016

Friday, May 13, 2016 at 5:30pm to Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 6:00pm - $125

ARC developed the 16 hr Wilderness and Remote First Aid Training to meet the needs of the Boy Scouts of America in situations where emergency response is over 30 minutes. Those who successfully complete this course will receive the ARC "Wilderness and First Aid" certificate which is valid for 2 years. A minimum age of 16 is recommended for participants due to the serious nature of the course and scenarios. **Pre-Requisite: Current Adult CPR/AED.

 

Trainer's EDGE

Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 8:00am to 5:00pm -$10

                                                   Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 8:30am to 5:30pm- $10

All Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing Leaders involved in training at the Pack, Troop, Crew, District, and Council levels should JOIN THIS EVENT to improve their training skills. Primary emphasis is on how to be a more effective trainer by learning better presentation. Saturday June 4th, 2016, from 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM at OA Building inside McGimsey Scout Park. ONLINE REGISRATION ENDS June 3rd at 4:00 PM; however WALKINS will be accepted at $10.00 cost day of training.

 

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Friday, August 19, 2016 at 5:00pm to Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 6:00pm - $15

This hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required for the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scout Troops and Teams, in order to be considered "trained". Outdoor WEBELOS Leader Skills is taught in conjunction with this course.

 

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)

 

Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 8:00am to 5:00pm - $10

A one-day training event, presented by the council, that introduces Cub Scout leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. Each Cub Scout Pack is required to have one BALOO trained adult in the Pack in order to conduct an overnight activity. The BALOO trained adult must be present at the activity.

Merit Badge Counselor Orientation at Texas Hills RT

 

Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Orientation for Merit Badge Counselors. Required to renew as a Merit Badge Counselor. Must have been completed since 2011. Also recommended for all unit leadership to better understand the Merit Badge Process and the function of the Merit Badge Counselor.

 

Fall Wood Badge I & II

Friday, October 21, 2016 to Sunday, October 23, 2016

Friday, November 11, 2016 to Sunday, November 13, 2016

Wood Badge is Scouting's premier training course providing in-depth training in leadership skills and group dynamics. It is designed to meet the needs for all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturing leaders as well as Council and District leaders and Scouting professionals.

 

To register for any of these just go to the council site log in or create a log in.  Go to the training calendar and select the training you want. You can register from there.  If you need help or have questions call or email me.
