LNT - Outdoor Ethics Trainer Course

DEC: Outdoor Ethics Trainer Course

This 16-hour, overnight training course is designed for adult and youth members of Scouting, 14 years of age and older, who value the land and want to teach others how to protect and preserve it.  Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an Outdoor Ethics Trainer certificate (formerly known as Leave No Trace), a trainer pin and be qualified to teach Outdoor Ethics skills to all levels of Scouting.

This course will meet the requirements for Summer Camp Staff to be trained as an Outdoor Ethics Trainer. It is available for scouts, 14 years and older, who have been assigned the Troop Outdoor Ethics Guide course for their position of responsibility; who would like more information on Outdoor Ethics.

There are many ways to teach Outdoor Ethics. Different training methods will be utilized throughout the course so you can see different styles and build confidence in planning your own workshops.  As a participant in this training you will be required to teach an assigned Outdoor Ethics principle to the group, in a 15 to 20 minute lesson.  This is a Train-the-Trainer course.

Upon successful completion you will be registered with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics in Boulder, CO as an Outdoor Ethics Trainer.  There is a need for qualified Scouters to teach awareness workshops at the Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing levels.  Outdoor Ethics workshops can be added to Council and District events, and trainers will be needed to present them.  The BSA Outdoor Ethics structure including "Tread Lightly!" principles and "The Land Ethic" will also be briefly covered.

Please join us at this training. Whatever level you wish to work at you will be welcome.
