Biography

Raised in Central Illinois and Northern Virginia, Ken was active in Boy Scouts, earning Life Scout rank and the God and Country ribbon, worked as a camp counselor, and played the trumpet in his high school band. After graduating from Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA, he earned a BS degree from American University in Washington, D.C. and commissioning as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S.Marine Corps.  Ken was deployed to Japan and Viet Nam where he flew over 100 combat missions. Carolyn is a 5th generation Southern Californian from Claremont, CA, studied English, History and Political Science at San Diego State University and did graduate work in Sociology at Northern Missouri State University. Ken completed his graduate work at USC, Los Angeles, CA.

Ken and Carolyn met when he was reassigned to El Toro, California, and Carolyn was working at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Los Angeles.  During 35 years of marriage, they traveled extensively. After 25 years in the Corps, Ken retired as a decorated Lt. Colonel. In public service, he served at the Orange County, CA governing board and became active in numerous non-profits including Scouting, American Cancer Society and environmental/land conservation organizations. Carolyn was president of the International Wives Club, a member of the PEO Sisterhood, chaired Red Cross Blood Drives, and published a cook book. Ken currently serves as Operations Manager at Kerrville First United Methodist Church. Ken and Carolyn have always been active in church as adult and youth leaders, Sunday School teachers, and traveled on mission trips to Mexico and China which led to a passion for mission work.
