Advancement is the process by which youth members of the Boy Scouts of America progress from rank to rank in the Scouting program. A fundamental principal of advancement in Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing is the growth a young person achieves as a result of his/her participation in unit programs. For details, visit www.AlamoAreaBSA.org/Advancements or email the Advancement team at Advancements@AlamoAreaBSA.org.
Merit badges are advancements for Boy Scouts that signify the mastery of certain Scoutcraft skills, as well as serving to increase skill in an area of personal interest. Of the more than 134 merit badges available, twenty-one must be earned to qualify for Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouting.
Merit Badge University
Merit Badge University (MBU) is a one-day event that gives Boy Scouts the opportunity to earn merit badges ranging from recreational activites to Eagle Scout prerequisites.
The Alamo Area Council is excited to announce that units can now use Internet Advancement for FREE to record their youth member advancements from any online location—at home or at the office. You will find this new method to be easy, convenient, and accurate because you enter the information. Units may use this service at any time as long as the unit is an active unit.
You will need your unit BSA ID number to get started. If you have questions or issues, please contact our certified registrar, Melissa Moore, by email at Melissa.Moore@Scouting.org or by phone at 210-341-8611 Ext. 101.
