Fall has arrived. School is back in session as well as school activities, and our calendars have become very busy. The holiday season is nearly upon us, and we will have even more activities to schedule – that also means it’s nearing Unit Charter Time. Less time left, more to do…
Let’s see if you are on track:
- Is your Youth Protection Training current? Check to make sure it won’t expire during 2023.
- Are you Position Specific Trained for the position(s) you will hold in 2023?
- Has your Leaders’ Hazardous Weather expired? (It expires after 2 years.)
- As a Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster have you completed Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)? There’s only 1 course left this year, so register for the November session here.
If you answered ‘no’ to any of those questions, now’s the time to act! Log into your My.Scouting.org account and update your training, because time is short! If there’s ever an issue with a unit’s Recharter Paperwork, it’s typically an adult leaders training module hanging it up. Don’t be the reason your Recharter stalls – make a plan to get your training updated and stick to it.
YPT Quiz for the Month
Is there more than one Youth Protection Training program available in My.Scouting?
Drum Roll !!!
The answer is: Yes.
As you browse through My.Scouting looking for Youth Protection Training, you will see that there are multiple programs with that title. The keyword to look for is Mandatory. Mandatory – Youth Protection Training is the required course with 4 parts. Three parts are training modules and the fourth part is the test. All four parts must be completed to be credited with being YP trained.
The Continuing Education – Youth Protection Training discusses information about four types of abuse. It is not required and does not count as completing the required YPT but we can all benefit from additional information.
Are you having trouble figuring out if you are trained for a position or not?
The Training Committee is here to assist you! Send a note to Training@AlamoAreaBSA.org Let us know the Leader Position.
