Scout members privacy protected
March 20, 2014
The Boy Scouts of America takes the privacy of our member’s personal information seriously. We do not sell our mailing lists to vendors for any purpose. Recently, some members from the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council may have received a group discount offer through Liberty Mutual in the mail. As with many membership based organizations, we periodically receive promotional opportunities for our membership.
Liberty Mutual is a longtime vendor and a friend of Scouting. After careful evaluation, the Boy Scouts of America determined this to be a potential valuable benefit. No contact information was provided nor retained by Liberty Mutual Insurance. Similar to other mailings a third party mailing service was used and no information beyond names and addresses were a part of this process. In addition, to ensure privacy we used a secure encryption process.
We understand some members would prefer not to receive mail from third-party vendors and because of this the Boy Scouts of America
- will no longer participate in promotional mailings of this nature
- is pursuing alternate ways to bring appropriate opportunities to our members.
If you have any questions about our mailing lists or partnerships with third-party vendors, please contact Communications / Marketing Director, Angel Martinez, at Angel.Martinez@Scouting.org or Director of Support Service, Sean Magnuson at Sean.Magnuson@Scouting.org.
