Hugh B. “Trip” Ruckman, a long time Scouter and Karnes City community leader, has been selected to receive the District Award of Merit. Trip, who is an Eagle Scout, is being recognized by Mesquite District for his leadership in Scouting and service to the community. Mesquite District delivers Scouting to eight counties in South Central Texas.
Presently he is the registered Scouting COR for his Rotary Cub and helps with the Mesquite District Finance committee. The committee helps provide support to the after school programs in Karnes City, Kenedy, Runge, and Stockdale.
Mr. Ruckman led the Boy Scout Troop in Karnes City for 21 years where he served as Scoutmaster.
Boards that he has actively served on include the San Antonio River Authority, San Antonio River Foundation, and the Lonesome Dove Foundation. Currently he is the Treasurer of the Karnes County Historical Society and is active with the Karnes City Rotary Club.
Trip served his country in the United States Navy where he had 24 years of active and reserve service.
Professionally he serves as the President and Chairman of the Board of Karnes County National Bank.
