Powder Horn 2021 (PH2021) is an action-packed, hands-on, six-day course which helps Scouters learn how to implement High Adventure activities into their Troop, Crew or Ship.
PH2021 spans two, 3-day weekends at Bear Creek Scout Reservation (BCSR):
- Weekend #1 is September 24-26, 2021
- Weekend #2 is October 8-10, 2021
Powder Horn is designed to introduce and expose Youth and Adult leaders from all Scouting programs to the activities, training and resources necessary to conduct a successful outdoor or high-adventure unit-level program. Although Powder Horn does not train you to be an expert or certify you as a high-adventure instructor, it DOES educate and give you access to the resources (including facilities and instructors) that are available to you, thus enabling YOU to coordinate and do high-adventure activities in your unit! Unit leaders will still need to find knowledgeable, trained, and certified individuals to help provide a safe and exciting outdoor high-adventure program.
High-adventure activities that you will be introduced to (and get hands-on experience with) include: Backpacking, Cooking, COPE (High/Low), Emergency Preparedness, Field Archery, Forest Ecology, Land Navigation, Leave No Trace, Tomahawks, Moulage, Search & Rescue, Outback Pioneering, Shooting Sports, Watercraft, Wilderness First Aid + more!
Powder Horn is ONLY offered every other year, so do not miss this chance to attend! Register TODAY at: https://mycouncil.alamoareabsa.org/Event/9830, to reserve your spot in the Course! Youth that are 14 years of age (or have joined a Venturing crew if 13 years of age and completed eighth grade) and Adult leaders from all Scouting programs are eligible to attend. The course has a limited capacity and fills up early, so don’t wait to register! The cost for all this awesome fun and learning is only $270 per person.
