SCOUTING FOR FOOD 2020 FEEDS SAN ANTONIO AREA YOUTH
Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council youth collect food for the San Antonio Food Bank
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 21, 2020) – Scout boys and girls of the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council deliver thousands of paper bags, donated by H-E-B and sponsored by USAA, filled with nonperishable food items collected from the local community. Bag pickup and delivery begins Saturday, February 22, 2020, from 8:00 a.m. until 1 p.m. Media is invited to see the Scouts in action at one of the drop off locations – BSA’s Main Service Center located at 2226 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78213.
Scouting for Food has been a tradition in the National Boy Scouts of America since 1985. “It warms our team at the Alamo Area Council to see the Scouts give back to those in need in their own communities,” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council.
The Scouting youth are participating in Scouting for Food, the largest one-day food drive for the National Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council (BSA), partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank, feed food insecure youth by collecting filled bags on Saturday, February 22, 2020, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then bringing the food items to designated drop-off points throughout the region. Since relaunching the Scouting for Food partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank in 2013, the local Scouts have raised over 60,000 pounds of food. A Scouting for Food event is also planned in the Fall of 2020.
The San Antonio Food Bank reports 1 in 4 children in Bexar County alone are food insecure, with nearly 40% of the Food Bank’s emergency food recipients being children. Scouts hope to have an impact on these startling numbers by contributing to Scouting for Food. For event details, visit www.AlamoAreaBSA.org/ScoutingForFood.
