I’ve been part of Scouting for years, and it wasn’t until talking with Courtney Bukowski, the Chief Development Officer for the Alamo Area Council, that I learned of AmazonSmile. Have you heard of it? Well, let me tell you, I’m kicking myself for not utilizing it sooner.
As a busy mom of two young kids, and one who always seems to not find the right thing at my local store, I often turn to Amazon to add a little sanity to my cart. Can’t find the right color shoes? Amazon. Hair dryer on the fritz? Amazon. And if I knew about AmazonSmile, .5% of those purchases would have gone back to Scouting.
I know. My mind was blown too, and if we were standing in the same room, I’d be giving you the same wide-eyed slow nod Courtney gave me when my jaw dropped. AmazonSmile is a simple way for you to support Scouting – read this next part slowly – every time you shop, at no cost to you.
I know, you have questions. I did too. Here’s what I learned (thank you Google!) before I made the switch.
How to set up an account and effortlessly give back to Scouting:
- Visit smile.amazon.com.
- Sign in with your Amazon.com credentials.
- Choose Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council, Inc.
- Use smile.amazon.com for all your Amazon purchases and Give the Adventure!
But can I use Amazon Prime with Amazon smile?
Yes! Other than turning on AmazonSmile in your account settings and choosing the Alamo Area Council as your prefered charity, the experience of shopping through AmazonSmile is the same as shopping on Amazon the regular way. You’ll see the same prices, the same products and the same expedited shipping options (if you’re an Amazon Prime member, that is).
Is there a way to see how much Amazon smile has donated to The Alamo Area Council?
Yes, there is! Hover over “Hello, [your name] Account & Lists”, then in the right column of the drop-down, click on “Your Amazon Smile.” You’ll see your orders, what donation you’ve generated for your charity, and how much your charity has collected overall from Amazon Smile.
Are prices higher on Amazon smile?
No! The company says that tens of millions of products on the site are eligible for AmazonSmile donations, and it promises that using the service won’t result in higher prices.
