By now, lots of Scouters have heard of NYLT. It’s a leadership program for youth (you can learn more here if you’re curious: https://www.alamoareabsa.org/leadership-training/national-youth-leadership-training/
But what’s often missing from promotional materials is personal experience. So, I’d like to tell you all why I, the upcoming Youth Course Lead of the AAC Spring 2023 Course, love NYLT and why you all should consider attending or sending your youth. Primarily NYLT has provided me with examples of good leaders and gave me the tools to succeed. When I went to NYLT in Spring of 2020 I was just about to be SPL of my Troop, but I wasn’t really excited, I was super nervous and I didn’t think I’d do a good job. When I showed up to NYLT and saw all the cool, older Staff being so enthusiastic and leading such a complex program so confidently, I was inspired. Additionally, presentations and games gave me ideas for what I thought could be improved in my Troop and what I’d like to change during my term. After I came back from NYLT I was able to start enabling changes as well as adapt to the changes provided to me through Covid. My Troop succeeded through Covid, not even missing a single meeting, because NYLT inspired me to be an adaptable and inspiring leader.NYLT inspired and energized me, and it can do the same for those in your Troop, Crew, or Ship. After my term as SPL I went on to staff NYLT, NAYLE, serve as my Crew’s President, serve in the Council’s Venturing Officer’s Association, serve as the Vice President of my school’s Architecture Club, and now I will serve as NYLT’s Spring 2023 Youth Course Lead. I gained the confidence and motivation to do all these amazing things at NYLT.If you’d like to have, or give, this amazing experience consider registering for the Spring 2023 NYLT course here: https://mycouncil.alamoareabsa.org/Event/13271YIS,
