Launched in September 2011, Messengers of Peace is a global initiative designed to inspire millions of young people in more than 220 countries and territories to work towards peace through service to others. Using social media and other Scouting networks the initiative lets Scouts from around the world share what they’ve done and inspire fellow Scouts to undertake similar efforts in their own communities. The initiative is inspired by the World Scout Committee, administered by the World Scout Bureau, and driven by youth volunteers worldwide. Youth & Adults need the signature and approval of the Council’s International Representative to achieve this award.
JOTA-JOTI (Jamboree-on-the-Air/Jamboree-on-the-Internet) is the world’s largest digital Scout event taking place on the Internet and over the airwaves. Held every year in October, the event connects millions of young people around the world for a full weekend of online activities that promote friendship and global citizenship. JOTA-JOTI enables young people and volunteers to participate in fun and engaging group activities over the Internet and amateur radio focused on developing 21st century skills through Scouting. The dynamic program comprised a variety of non-formal education activities, including webinars, global campfires, talent shows, live shows, fun challenges, and more through an interactive 3D campsite. JOTA-JOTI aims to support young people of all ages to learn about communications technology, the values of global citizenship, and their role in creating a better world.

The interpreter strip is a small patch indicating that the wearer knows a language other than English. The language he or she speaks appears on the patch in that language — “Español” for Spanish, “日本語” for Japanese, etc. — so speakers of that language can easily spot a willing interpreter. You don’t have to be fluent to wear an interpreter strip. However, you must be able to carry on a five-minute conversation in the language, translate a two-minute speech or address, write a letter in the language and translate 200 written words from the language.
(These are just a few of the interpreter strips)
The International Scouter’s Award encourages Scouters to broaden their involvement in Scouting through participation in World Scouting activities and recognizes Scouters for their contributions to world Scouting. Applicants must be currently registered adult Scouters of the Boy Scouts of America. All applicants must receive the signature and approval of their local council’s international committee chairperson or international representative and their council’s Scout executive.
The World Conservation Award provides an opportunity for individual Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers, and Sea Scouts to think globally and act locally to preserve and improve our environment. This program is designed to help youth members gain awareness that all nations are closely related through natural resources and that we are interdependent with our world environment.
